The footwear industry is a very unique industry. Building high-quality, well-functioning shoes require knowledge across many disciplines. For example, since a shoe can influence how you walk, run, jump, etc., a basic understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics is beneficial. Likewise, knowledge of footwear lasts, construction techniques, materials, molds, terminology, etc., is essential for people involved in footwear product creation. Unfortunately, there are very few books, websites, or schools where a person can go to get this information. For this reason, POC has developed training curriculum focused on the technical aspects of footwear creation.
The primary goal of any of this technical training is to determine where a person’s current knowledge level is and then tailor a class to increase their level of understanding. We have conducted classes for groups at their location, we have had individuals travel to Portland for training, and we are also investigating the possibility of providing this training online through programs like Go to Meeting or Webex.
So, whether you have new employees who need an introduction to the technical aspects of footwear creation or existing employees who could use additional training, POC can set up a training program for individuals and teams. The greater the depth of knowledge your team members have, the more successful you’ll be at creating high-level products.
