Successfully developing new consumer products - whether it’s shoes, cell phones, or light fixtures - requires the new product to have a balanced mix of exciting aesthetics and innovative functionality. Achieving these attributes is very difficult if you are only working with 2D design or CAD drawings. Creating an actual 3D physical prototype that can be held, measured, and discussed makes the product creation process so much easier. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a physical 3D prototype can be worth a thousand pictures.
At POC, we have a rapid prototype machine that allows us to print 3D physical parts from 3D CAD data that you provide or that we create for you (see 3D CAD modeling page). Our machine is a ZCorp brand machine which utilizes a special plaster-like material and a proprietary liquid binder to create detailed, accurate, and durable prototype parts. These parts can be used as design evaluation parts, design confirmation parts, and even as masters for various types of mold making. Unlike most other rapid prototype technologies, the ZCorp machine also allows for the addition multiple colors directly on the parts - which can be very helpful when making product presentations.
So if you are currently still utilizing a 2D driven product creation process and would like to start transitioning to the benefits of using 3D processes, or if you are already using 3D processes but need additional resources, POC is available to help you with this need.
